The workshop-like art project extends from an ongoing, traveling series of events that Egill Sæbjörnsson began in 2013 with curator Annabelle von Girsewald, aiming to involve multiple senses in the processing and discovery of information and locality. Each event establishes a temporary community of thinkers and doers prepared to “bake,” ready to combine a mixture of ingredients into a palatable whole. From clay breads of the imagination to traditional loaves and Icelandic pancakes, the resulting breads take on many forms, often colliding with the artist’s use of video projections and technologies to take the tactile to the visual and vice versa. There is no set expectation to the process, simply a gathering to celebrate creativity, its translation through various forms, perhaps within a medium that recollects an earlier creative freedom.
